Keanu Reeves has accepted numerous memorable roles in movies throughout his career, but there’s one character in particular that he is really excited to bring back to life. The 60-year-old actor recently reunited with Francis Lawrence, the director of Constantine. The two talked about the film during an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast that premiered on Monday, February 17. Host Josh Horowitz asked his guests a few questions about the movie – which has garnered a cult following since its release – before eventually inquiring about any updates about the sequel that was announced back in 2022.
“I’m aching to play this guy,” Reeves told the listeners after confirming that a script is in the works. Lawrence, 53, also noted that he has been open to making a second Constantine ever since the debut of the first film. The director explained that he has had to deal with “hurdles” that are outside his control in order to get the film made, telling fans that progress has been hard to achieve because of leadership changes at both Warner Bros. and DC Comics in the last 20 years.
Fans of the actor took to the comments section of the podcast episode on YouTube to discuss the actor’s update and share their thoughts on the possibility of seeing Reeves play John Constantine again. “I am so giddy how excited he is to try and play this character again. Crossing his fingers, saying he’s aching to play John again, I LOVE THIS!,” wrote one excited user, while a second added, “I LOVE Constantine. It was a beautiful film, and Keanu does the best version of the character in my opinion. I can’t wait to see a sequel. I’ve hoped for one ever since the first film.” A third user simply asked that they bring back some of the other cast members along with Reeves and wrote, “Would absolutely love to see a second Constantine. But please also bring back Peter Stormare, his Satan was my favorite Satan so far.”
Reeves and Lawrence gathered on the pod nearly 20 years to the day after the release of their 2005 movie about the DC character. Fans can stream Constantine today on YouTube, Apple TV, or Amazon Prime Video. The excitement surrounding Keanu Reeves’ potential return as John Constantine illustrates a lasting legacy that continues to resonate with audiences, paving the way for a hopeful revival in the franchise.
