Coca-Cola Health Probe: HBC Navigates Crisis in Croatia Amid Soft Drink Scrutiny

Coca-Cola Health Probe: Coca-Cola HBC announced on Wednesday the temporary withdrawal of batches of two soft drinks in Croatia as authorities investigate suspected cases of illness linked to the beverages.

Earlier, Croatia’s state inspection office directed the local arm of Coca-Cola HBC, responsible for distributing Coca-Cola products, to recall a batch of Coca-Cola Original Taste 500ml.

In a released statement, the company confirmed the withdrawal of a limited batch of Romerquelle Emotion Blueberry Pomegranate 330ml. Despite internal analysis finding no irregularities, the company is taking this precautionary step pending official investigations. Over the weekend, a young man in Rijeka suffered throat injuries after consuming a Romerquelle Emotion drink.

Health Minister Vili Beros disclosed on Wednesday that the individual is under hospital care. He later informed state television HRT that 13 others across Croatia reported symptoms after consuming Coca-Cola drinks, with serious injuries confined to the individual in Rijeka.

Late Wednesday, the state inspectorate reported that an analysis of a Romerquelle Emotion sample found all measured values within allowed parameters, stating they could not cause the reported symptoms. Analysis of regular Coca-Cola samples is pending.

Coca-Cola HBC reassured in its statement, “We are working closely with our customers throughout this process. We continue to support the authorities’ investigation and are taking clear actions to protect our consumers.”

The situation raises questions about consumer safety and potential industry implications, underscoring the need for transparency as the investigation unfolds.
