Anurag Kashyap hints at ‘Kennedy’ sequel as a web series; Mohanlal’s involvement disclosed!

Anurag Kashyap is gearing up for the anticipated release of his film, Kennedy. The film, featuring Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone, is set for a theatrical release, and Kashyap has already stirred excitement by hinting at a sequel. This sequel, he revealed, is likely to take the form of a web series. He discussed his vision for this transition and much more in a recent interview, providing insights into his creative process and future plans.

In a conversation with The Hindu, Anurag Kashyap shared his plans for a Kennedy sequel. He mentioned that the web series would delve deeper into a lead character, ensuring continuity from the movie. Kashyap stated, “I have a sequel web series in mind where the character survives the events of Kennedy.” This revelation has intrigued fans eager to see how this storyline unfolds across a new medium.

The character at the heart of Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy is Uday Shetty, an undercover cop portrayed by Rahul Bhat, while Sunny Leone takes on the role of Charlie. Kashyap’s inspiration for Kennedy stemmed from a real-life cop in the Mumbai Force, whose story left a lasting impression on him. Despite facing delays, the film was showcased at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, and it now awaits its turn in Indian theaters, marking a significant milestone for Kashyap.

During the same interview, Kashyap shed light on Mohanlal’s connection to Kennedy. He revealed that Mohanlal was an initial inspiration, as Kashyap envisioned the Malayalam star in the lead role. He even intended for Rajeev Ravi to direct that iteration. However, the project evolved into what Kennedy is today, poised to be a part of Zee Studios’ 2025 lineup, albeit still without a set release date.

As Anurag Kashyap prepares to introduce audiences to Kennedy and its potential sequel as a web series, the film and its continuation present a blend of compelling narrative and unique character portrayals. The anticipation surrounding Kennedy’s release, coupled with Kashyap’s visionary storytelling, positions these projects as impactful additions to Indian cinema, promising to engage viewers with originality and depth.
