Corey Feldman Alleges He Was Eyed for Iconic Leonardo DiCaprio Roles in ‘Gilbert Grape’ and ‘Titanic’

Corey Feldman recently sparked intrigue by alleging he was considered for some of Leonardo DiCaprio‘s most famous roles. During Billy Corgan’s podcast, Feldman claimed he was set to play Arnie in the 1993 film “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.” However, he contends that his involvement changed when Johnny Depp joined the project and allegedly had him removed, citing Feldman’s past struggles with sobriety. Despite this, Feldman asserted he was sober at that time, having just completed rehabilitation.

Feldman’s claims extend beyond “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” suggesting he was also a contender for a role in the blockbuster “Titanic.” He admitted that his proximity to securing the latter role wasn’t as close, accepting the competitiveness of the process. Furthermore, Feldman expressed a near miss with the character of Samwise Gamgee in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, conceding that his former “Goonies” co-star Sean Astin, who ultimately landed the role, excelled in it, particularly with the physical transformation the part required.

These revelations from Feldman have stirred discussions in Hollywood circles, reflecting on the alternative paths iconic films could have taken. Feldman’s openness about his past and missed opportunities shines a light on the unpredictable nature of casting in the film industry, where roles that defined Leonardo DiCaprio’s career success could have been pivotal in Feldman’s resurgence had circumstances aligned differently. As the debate continues, eyes remain on both actors’ future projects and past narratives.
