Emma Stone Stars in Bugonia Movie: Yorgos Lanthimos Thriller Gets Earlier 2025 Release Date

Emma Stone is set to star in Bugonia, a new film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, with Focus Features confirming that the movie will debut in select theaters in New York City and Los Angeles on October 24, 2025. The nationwide release is scheduled for October 31, 2025, moving up from the previously planned November 7 date. This change means audiences will see Stone in her latest collaboration with Lanthimos earlier than expected.

Bugonia, an English-language remake of the 2003 South Korean movie Save the Green Planet!, brings together an acclaimed cast including Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone. The storyline revolves around two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap the powerful CEO of a major corporation—portrayed by Emma Stone—believing she is an alien intent on destroying Earth.

The film’s screenplay is written by Will Tracy, with production led by Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe for Element Pictures. Additional producers include Yorgos Lanthimos for Pith, Emma Stone for Fruit Tree, Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen for Square Peg, and Miky Lee and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko for CJ ENM. This ensemble of producers brings together notable talent from across the film industry, aiming to create a suspenseful thriller.

Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos have a well-established history of successful collaborations, previously working together on The Favourite (2018), Poor Things (2023) for which Stone earned an Academy Award for Best Actress, and Kinds of Kindness (2024). Stone’s continued partnership with Lanthimos has drawn attention from both critics and audiences alike, raising expectations for Bugonia.

The updated release schedule positions Bugonia for high anticipation in the fall of 2025, while its earlier premiere could enhance its visibility heading into awards season. With Emma Stone in a leading role and Yorgos Lanthimos directing, the film is expected to generate significant interest in both domestic and international markets.
