Aamir Khan Productions updated its social media display pictures on Friday, replacing its official logo with the Indian National Flag across platforms like X, Facebook, and Instagram. The change comes amid online backlash against actor Aamir Khan ahead of the release of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, scheduled for June 20, 2025.
The boycott calls stem from two issues circulating online. One concerns Khan’s perceived delay in responding to Operation Sindoor, a major Indian Armed Forces operation targeting terrorist groups in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The second involves a resurfaced video from the actor’s past visit to Turkey.
After the updated display image appeared, users on Reddit debated whether the move was an attempt to manage the negative attention. One user commented, “Lol he’s being boycotted online so clearly did it as damage control,” while another wrote, “Bekar me damage control kar rahe hai,” implying the effort was unnecessary or ineffective.
On May 12, Aamir Khan Productions posted on X: “Salute to the heroes of Operation Sindoor. Heartfelt gratitude to our armed forces for their courage, bravery, and unwavering commitment to the security of our nation. Thank you to the Honourable Prime Minister for his leadership and determination. Jai Hind.”
The timing of the post drew criticism from some social media users, who questioned why the statement came weeks after the operation and just ahead of the film’s promotional activities.
During a recent media event, Aamir Khan addressed the broader issue of cross-border tensions. He said, “We need justice and assurance that it [terrorist attacks] won’t happen again. We believe in our government, they’ll take action against the anti-social elements who committed this and bring them to justice.”
Meanwhile, the trailer for Sitaare Zameen Par was released recently, further placing Khan in the public spotlight as reactions to both his film and political stance continue to unfold.
The production company has not issued a statement clarifying whether the flag update was linked to the ongoing controversy or part of the film’s promotional strategy. As public response remains divided, the effectiveness of the move in countering the online criticism is yet to be seen.
