Rawal’s portrayal gained a devoted following since the release of the original Hera Pheri in 2000. Though the film performed modestly in theaters, it grew in popularity through television broadcasts. The 2006 sequel, Phir Hera Pheri, capitalized on that momentum and became a box office success. Over time, both films have gained cult status, helped by social media and meme culture.
