Amit Sadh Says He Quit Kai Po Che: Amit Sadh has revealed that he walked out of Kai Po Che! on the first day of work following a confrontation with the film’s director, Abhishek Kapoor. In a recent interview on the podcast Cyrus Says, Sadh recalled the tense early moments of the 203 film, which ultimately became a career-defining project for him and co-stars Rajkummar Rao and the late Sushant Singh Rajput.
Sadh shared that the conflict began during the initial script reading session. According to him, Kapoor was upset over a female actor dropping out of the project and expressed his frustration by criticizing the male leads—Sadh, Rao, and Rajput—for what he perceived as a lack of emotional depth. Sadh, who said he felt protective of his co-actors, objected to the director’s tone and challenged his authority.
“I came back home that day and decided that I was not going to do this film because Gattoo was rude to us,” Sadh said, referring to Kapoor by his nickname. He added that the filmmakers tried to replace him after his exit but could not find a suitable substitute.
About a week later, Sadh and Kapoor unexpectedly met again. The director directly confronted him about quitting. “He asked me if I had other work or even a house or a car. I said no, and he said, ‘Then why did you quit the film?’” Sadh recounted.
Reflecting on his mindset at the time, Sadh admitted that he had difficulty managing his emotions early in his career. “I had a very bad temper, and I was very violent,” he said. He credited his personal growth to the people he later met and the literature that helped him gain perspective. “The one thing I am proud of is that I met the right people, and I read the right book, and I realised that anger was futile. I found the other way, which is communication.”
Despite the rocky start, Sadh remained part of Kai Po Che!, which went on to receive critical acclaim and marked a major turning point for its cast. The film, based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel The 3 Mistakes of My Life, explored friendship and ambition against the backdrop of political and communal unrest in early 2000s Gujarat.
Sadh has since appeared in various film and web projects. Most recently, he was featured in Pune Highway, alongside Jim Sarbh, Rajit Kapoor, Shishir Sharma, and Manjari Fadnnis. The actor continues to reflect on his past challenges while embracing growth in both his personal life and professional journey.
