Shad Gregory Moss (born March 9, 1987), known professionally as Bow Wow (formerly Lil’ Bow Wow), is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, and television presenter. He first entered the public eye at age six when he was discovered by Snoop Dogg, and he later developed his sound under the mentorship of record producer Jermaine Dupri. Over the course of his career, Moss has released several studio albums, appeared in feature films and on television, and hosted popular music and radio programs. Bow Wow was born Shad Gregory Moss on March 9, 1987, in Columbus, Ohio. He is the son of Teresa Rena Caldwell (née Jones) and Alfonso Preston Moss, and his family supported his interest in music from a young age. He became interested in rap at age three and began rapping recreationally under the moniker “Kid Gangsta” when he was six years old. In December 2007, Bow Wow and Omarion released a collaborative album titled Face Off, followed by New Jack City II in March 2009, his sixth studio album. That same year, he signed with Cash Money Records, where he released promotional singles in advance of a planned album titled Underrated, including “Ain’t Thinkin’ ‘Bout You” featuring Chris Brown and “Sweat” featuring Lil Wayne. The album remained unreleased, and he parted ways with Cash Money in 2015 before signing with Bad Boy Records later that year. In 2013, he was named host of BET’s 106 & Park, a role he held until the show’s cancellation in 2014.
Bow Wow also expanded his television work, appearing in five episodes of HBO’s Entourage and starring as Brody Nelson in CSI: Cyber until the show’s 2016 cancellation. In 2016, he began hosting the Australian Hit Network radio program RnB Friday Nights. In 2020, he competed in the third season of The Masked Singer as “Frog,” finishing in third place, and headlined The Millennium Tour in 2020, 2021, and 2022. In 2024, he opened a restaurant in Atlanta called “Prime on Peachtree” and teased a final album titled Before 30 that he had announced in 2021.
