Early Life and Background

Kendrick Lamar Duckworth was born on June 17, 1987, in Compton, California, the first child of Kenneth “Kenny” Duckworth and hairdresser Paula Oliver. His parents relocated from the South Side of Chicago to Compton in 1984, and Kendrick Lamar grew up surrounded by extended family in Section 8 housing. He was later joined by younger siblings and cousins, including rapper Baby Keem and former basketball player Nick Young.
