Early Life and Background
Lauren Michelle Jauregui Morgado was born on June 27, 1996, in Miami, Florida, to Cuban parents Michael Jauregui and Clara Morgado. Her father works as a plant manager and her mother is a teacher who moved to the United States when Fidel Castro came to power. The eldest of three siblings, Jauregui grew up in a close-knit Cuban-American household that valued education, faith, and creative expression.
She attended a co-ed Catholic school from pre-K through sixth grade before enrolling at Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, an all-girls Catholic college preparatory school in Miami, where she attended on academic scholarship. Jauregui participated in the international baccalaureate program, took part in the talent show, and played on the softball team. Throughout her school years she expressed herself through the arts, enjoying singing, writing, dancing, choreographing, playing piano, and painting.

At the age of 15, Jauregui auditioned for the second season of The X Factor U.S., performing “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys, which judge Antonio Reid described as “perfect.” After being eliminated as a solo artist, she was placed into a five-member group alongside Ally Brooke, Normani, Dinah Jane, and Camila Cabello. The group, later named Fifth Harmony, advanced to the finale and finished in third place, launching Jauregui’s professional career in 2012.
