Normani Kordei Hamilton, known professionally as Normani, is an American singer, dancer, and actress. She first rose to international fame as a member of Fifth Harmony, one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, before launching a solo career in 2018. Her duet with Khalid, “Love Lies,” marked her arrival as a solo force, while follow-up tracks “Dancing with a Stranger,” “Motivation,” and “Wild Side” cemented her reputation for choreography-driven pop and R&B. Her debut studio album, Dopamine, arrived in 2024 after years of anticipation.

Early Life and Background

Normani Kordei Hamilton was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 31, 1996, to Derrick Hamilton and Andrea Hamilton. She has two older half sisters, Ashlee and Arielle. After her birth, the family relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana, where she spent her early childhood immersed in Southern culture, food, and music traditions.

Her life shifted dramatically in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina forced the family to move to Houston, Texas. The upheaval shaped her resilience and introduced her to new creative outlets. April 2018 marked a turning point when Normani became the first artist to sign with Keep Cool/RCA Records ahead of her debut solo album. Normani was born to Derrick Hamilton and Andrea Hamilton. She has two older half sisters, Ashlee and Arielle. Her parents have been a central source of strength throughout her life, with Andrea and Derrick both surviving cancer diagnoses. In October 2020, her mother Andrea was treated for breast cancer, having first been diagnosed when Normani was five years old. In June 2023, Normani revealed that her father Derrick had also been diagnosed with cancer.

Personal Life

Normani is a Christian and resides in Los Angeles, California, in the San Fernando Valley. She has been in a relationship with Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf since 2022, and the couple became engaged in March 2025. Beyond her music career, Normani is an ambassador for the American Cancer Society and was named a Diversity Ambassador for The Cybersmile Foundation in 2016 after experiencing racial abuse online.
