Marco Antonio Muñiz was born in New York City to Puerto Rican parents. His father, Felipe Muñiz, worked in a hospital cafeteria and was also a musician, while his mother, Guillermina Quiñones, was a housewife. Anthony’s parents named him after the celebrated Mexican singer Marco Antonio Muñiz. He grew up in East Harlem, a neighborhood also known as Spanish Harlem or El Barrio, and is the youngest of eight children. He was raised in a Catholic household.

He released his Spanish-language debut, Otra Nota, in 1993 on RMM Records, followed by Todo a Su Tiempo in 1995, which won him a Billboard Award for Hot Tropical Artist of the Year and was later certified gold. His third Spanish album, Contra La Corriente (1997), produced “Y Hubo Alguien,” which became the first number-one single by a salsa musician on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart.
In 1999, riding the crossover wave opened by Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias, Anthony released his self-titled English-language album, which debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200, was certified triple platinum, and featured the Top 5 single “I Need to Know.” The album’s success made him a global pop figure. The following year, he received the first-ever Latin Grammy Song of the Year award for “Dímelo.”

Marc Anthony Family

He married former Miss Universe Paraguay Nadia Ferreira on January 28, 2023, at the Pérez Art Museum in Miami, with David Beckham and Carlos Slim serving as best men.
