His father has English, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh ancestry, and his mother was of half Swedish and half English descent. On December 17, 1978, Mark Hamill married dental hygienist Marilou York in a private civil ceremony, and the couple has three children: Nathan Elias, Griffin Tobias, and Chelsea Elizabeth. According to a 1981 profile in People, his first serious relationship was with actress Anne Wyndham, whom he met on the set of General Hospital, and he has said that experience taught him the value of marrying outside the acting profession. In January 2025, Hamill and his wife evacuated their home in Malibu, California, due to the Palisades Fire, and he later moved to a rented house in Los Feliz.
