His father was of dual heritage, with a Swedish mother and Jamaican father, while his mother was a white English social worker who raised him along with his stepfather, a mechanic who later became a paediatric nurse. His passion for acting emerged at age eight when local actor Andrew Schofield, who lived across the road, encouraged him to pursue performing after seeing him play Jim Hawkins in a school production of Treasure Island at Overdale Primary School. Graham continued his education at Ruffwood School and, at 14, began attending Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre, performing at various venues including the Edinburgh Festival. During his teenage years, he was part of a breakdancing crew called “The Bronx Breakers.”
After his brother Nathan was born, Graham enrolled at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance in Bexley, London, where he trained as an actor. It was during his studies there that he met Hannah Walters, who would later become his wife and professional collaborator. He later moved to Plumstead in South East London, where he studied the acting methods of Stanislavski and Uta Hagen.
