    Alexander Albon Bio

    Alexander Philippe Albon Ansusinha (born 23 March 1996) is a Thai and British racing driver who competes under the Thai flag in Formula One for Williams. Born in Westminster and raised in Suffolk, Albon is the son of English racing driver Nigel Albon and his Thai wife. After a successful karting career and progressing through junior formulae, he made his Formula One debut with Toro Rosso in 2019. Albon became the first Thai driver to achieve a podium in Formula One and has since continued his career with Williams, where he is contracted to remain until at least the end of the 2026 season.

    By the end of the 2025 season, Albon had two Formula One podium finishes to his name. He drives car number 23 for Williams.

    Early Life and Background

    Alexander Philippe Albon Ansusinha was born at the Portland Hospital in the City of Westminster, London, on 23 March 1996. His father, Nigel Albon, is a British former racing driver who participated in the British Touring Car Championship and the Porsche Carrera Cup. His mother, Kankamol “Minky” Albon (née Ansusinha), originates from Thailand, and his uncle, Mark Albon, is a former racing driver who competed in one round of International Formula 3000.

    Growing up in Bures, Suffolk, alongside a younger brother, Luca, and three sisters, Chloe, Zoe and Alicia, Albon attended Ipswich School before leaving to focus on his professional racing career. He has cited Michael Schumacher and Valentino Rossi as inspirational figures during his childhood.

    Path to NASCAR

    Albon does not compete in NASCAR. His career has been built on the international open-wheel ladder, beginning in karting and progressing through Formula Renault, Formula 3, GP3 and FIA Formula 2 before reaching Formula One.

    Karting formed the foundation of his rise. He began racing competitively in 2005 at age eight and went on to win the junior direct-drive Karting World Cup and the Karting European Championship in 2010, establishing himself as one of Britain’s top junior karting talents before stepping up to single-seaters.

    Early Career (2012–2016)

    Albon graduated to the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup in 2012 with EPIC Racing, finishing 38th overall in a difficult learning year. After being dropped by the Red Bull Junior Team at the end of 2012, he returned with KTR in 2013 and showed improvement, securing a pole position and fastest lap at the Red Bull Ring. In 2014, he finished third in the Eurocup standings with one pole position at the Nürburgring.

    In 2015, Albon moved to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship with Signature, finishing seventh overall with two pole positions, five podiums and 187 points. The following year he stepped up to the GP3 Series with ART Grand Prix, claiming four wins and finishing as runner-up to teammate Charles Leclerc in his rookie season.

    FIA Formula 2 Breakthrough (2017–2018)

    Albon joined ART for his first FIA Formula 2 season in 2017 and finished tenth overall with 86 points, taking his first Formula 2 podium in the Hockenheim sprint race. He missed the Baku round after breaking his collarbone in a mountain biking accident.

    In 2018, Albon switched to DAMS alongside Nicholas Latifi and emerged as a Formula 1 talent. He claimed wins at Baku, Silverstone, the Hungaroring sprint and the Sochi feature race, adding further poles at Barcelona and Monaco.     Toro Rosso and Red Bull (2019–2020)

    Albon made his Formula One debut with Scuderia Toro Rosso at the 2019 Australian Grand Prix, finishing fourteenth. He scored his first points at the following race in Bahrain with ninth place and earned the Driver of the Day award at the Chinese Grand Prix after recovering from a pit-lane start to tenth. After 12 races, Red Bull Racing promoted him to replace Pierre Gasly alongside Max Verstappen from the Belgian Grand Prix onwards.

    Albon returned to a race seat with Williams in 2022, replacing George Russell and partnering Nicholas Latifi. He opened his Williams account with a point at the Australian Grand Prix after starting last, then reached Q3 for the first time with the team at the Belgian Grand Prix. He missed the Italian Grand Prix after being hospitalised with appendicitis and finished the season nineteenth overall with four of Williams’ eight points.

    Retained on a multi-year contract for 2023, Albon scored 27 points to teammate Logan Sargeant’s one, leading Williams to seventh in the Constructors’ Championship. He opened with fifth place at a rain-affected Australian Grand Prix and followed it with seventh in China after the disqualifications of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
