Stephen Mallozzi Bio
Stephen John Mallozzi (born January 15, 2001) is an American professional stock car racing driver. He last competed part-time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, driving the Nos. 2/22 Ford F-150 for Reaume Brothers Racing. Mallozzi has also made starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and continues to race late models. Beyond the cockpit, he works part-time as a server at an Outback Steakhouse franchise and writes about motorsports.
Early Life and Background
Stephen John Mallozzi was born on January 15, 2001, in Swedesboro, New Jersey. He is the son of Stephen Anthony Mallozzi and Melissa Marie Miller. Growing up in South Jersey, Mallozzi became a fan of auto racing at age three while watching races on television. His passion deepened through video games such as NASCAR Thunder 2004 and Mario Kart, which fueled his interest in real competition.
At the age of nine, Mallozzi visited a local go-kart track with help from his father and entered his first race. By eleven, he was competing frequently, and over the next several years he captured multiple Northeast Karting Challenge championships. Those titles earned him the opportunity to race overseas in Portugal, representing the United States. His karting career lasted roughly five years and laid the foundation for his stock car ambitions.
Mallozzi attended Salesianum High School, a Catholic private school in Wilmington, Delaware, graduating in 2019. He then enrolled at the University of Virginia, where he majored in economics and graduated in 2022. He later enrolled at the Temple University Beasley School of Law and is scheduled to graduate in 2026.
Path to NASCAR
Before a scheduled race in 2016, Mallozzi’s father was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and given six months to live. Devastated, Mallozzi stepped away from auto racing entirely and shifted his focus toward academics and journalism. While at the University of Virginia, he worked as a sports commentator for various programs and explored careers in journalism and law.
Early in 2021, Mallozzi confessed to his father that he regretted never racing in NASCAR. His father responded with a blunt challenge about perseverance in the face of his own illness. That conversation reignited Mallozzi’s commitment to racing. In July 2021, he and Reaume Brothers Racing crew member Jonathan Cuevas became the first drivers announced in a new development program at RBR.
Stephen Mallozzi Career
Early Career (2021–2022)
Mallozzi joined Reaume Brothers Racing (RBR) in 2021 as a development driver, securing an internship with the team and racing late models across the Carolinas. He built a close relationship with team owner Josh Reaume during this developmental phase. The experience prepared him for his first national series opportunity the following year.
In 2022, Mallozzi made his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut at the O’Reilly Auto Parts 150 at Mid-Ohio, driving the team’s No. 43 entry. To get to the track, he crowdfunded expenses through a Facebook group, solicited former sponsors, and relied on personal friends serving as spotters. After a practice incident with Mason Filippi of G2G Racing, Mallozzi qualified and finished 22nd in the race.
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Breakthrough (2023–2024)
The 2023 season expanded Mallozzi’s Truck Series schedule. His year began at Martinsville with AM Racing after RBR lacked owner’s points for its entry, but battery issues left him with a last-place finish. A subsequent race at Gateway for RBR brought additional struggles, including another battery failure that ended his run early.
A one-race sponsorship deal with Outback Steakhouse was announced in September 2023 for the UNOH 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway, reflecting his grassroots approach to funding. Mallozzi continued making Truck Series starts in 2024 at Martinsville and Pocono, gaining more seat time and consistency. Throughout this stretch, he balanced racing with part-time work as a server and writing for the NASCAR news site TobyChristie.com.
NASCAR Xfinity Series Debut (2024)
Mallozzi made his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut in 2024 at Pocono, marking his first start in NASCAR’s second-tier national tour. The debut resulted in a 35th-place finish, providing valuable experience at one of the series’ most demanding venues. The start reflected his continued progression within the Reaume Brothers Racing umbrella and his willingness to take on new challenges in higher-profile events.
Reaume Brothers Racing Era (2021–Present)
Mallozzi’s tenure with Reaume Brothers Racing began as a development driver in 2021 and has since grown into part-time national series competition. Driving the Nos. 2/22 Ford F-150, he has combined Truck Series outings with late model races across the region. His relationship with team owner Josh Reaume has remained central to his career trajectory, providing opportunities that larger teams have not.
Driving Style and Strengths
Mallozzi has demonstrated resourcefulness and determination as a self-funded driver, often piecing together race weekends through personal sacrifices and creative sponsorship outreach. His grassroots approach and willingness to speak candidly about the financial challenges of the sport have distinguished him from better-funded competitors. Continued seat time in the Truck Series and late models has allowed him to refine his race craft across a variety of track types.
Notable Races and Milestones
His Truck Series debut at Mid-Ohio in 2022 stands as a milestone, achieved through crowd-funded support and the help of friends serving as spotters. His 2024 Xfinity Series debut at Pocono marked his expansion into NASCAR’s secondary national tour. The 2023 UNOH 200 sponsorship deal with Outback Steakhouse also represented a unique off-track milestone for a part-time driver.
