Gregory Brockman (born November 29, 1987) is an American entrepreneur, investor, and software engineer. He is the co-founder and president of OpenAI, the artificial intelligence research company established in December 2015, and previously served as the first chief technology officer of Stripe. In 2010, Gregory Brockman dropped out of MIT to join Stripe, a financial technology company co-founded by Patrick Collison and John Collison. Three days later, on November 20, 2023, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that Brockman and Altman would join Microsoft to lead a new advanced artificial intelligence research team. After a deal was reached to reinstate Altman as OpenAI’s CEO, Brockman returned to OpenAI the following day. He took a sabbatical in August 2024 and returned to the company in November 2024.
