Bol Manute Bol, known professionally as Bol Bol, is a South Sudanese–American professional basketball player who last played for the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Standing at 7 feet 3 inches tall, he is one of the tallest players in the league and plays the center position. Bol is the son of the late Manute Bol, a former NBA star also celebrated for his exceptional height.
After a standout high school career that earned him McDonald’s All-American honors, Bol played one season of college basketball at the University of Oregon before entering the 2019 NBA Draft. Over the course of his professional career, he has suited up for the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, and Phoenix Suns.
Early Life and Background
Bol was born on November 16, 1999, in Khartoum, Sudan. He is the second child of former NBA player Manute Bol and his wife, Ajok Kuag. He was named after his late great-grandfather and Dinka chief Bol Chol Bol. Bol’s early years were shaped by the political instability of the Second Sudanese Civil War, and in 1998, his father was briefly barred by the Sudanese government from leaving the country after being accused of being an American spy.
In 2001, the family traveled to Cairo, Egypt, where they were stranded for several months due to visa issues despite holding tickets to the United States. By 2002, when Bol was two years old, his family had resettled in Connecticut as designated political refugees. Encouraged by his father, he began playing basketball at the age of four and soon began training in the gym with Manute. At age seven, the family moved again, this time to Olathe, Kansas, a city with a large South Sudanese population near Kansas City.

Path to Basketball
Bol began his high school career at Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, Kansas, where he was assigned to the junior varsity team. Because he lived outside the school district, he transferred to Bishop Miege High School in Roeland Park, Kansas, where he remained on junior varsity due to transfer rules. Standing 6 feet 10 inches at age 14, Bol made his Bishop Miege junior varsity debut on December 11, 2014, showcasing shot-blocking and shooting skills.
As a sophomore, Bol was ranked among the top players in the class of 2018 by recruiting service 247Sports. He helped Bishop Miege win the Kansas Class 4A Division I state title in March 2016, contributing 14 points in the championship game, and earned class 4A-I first-team honors after a 22-win season. In November 2016, he announced a transfer to Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, where he joined one of the most respected basketball programs in the country under head coach Gary McKnight.
Bol’s junior year at Mater Dei saw him average 16.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game while leading his team to a CIF runner-up finish. He transferred to Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada, for his senior season and committed to play college basketball at Oregon. In his final high school year, Bol averaged 20.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game, earning All-USA Boys Basketball Second-Team honors.

Early Career (2018–2019)
Bol joined the Oregon Ducks as a freshman for the 2018–19 season under head coach Dana Altman. Entering the year, he was considered one of the best prospects in the 2019 NBA Draft class, with some analysts projecting him as high as the third overall pick. He debuted on November 6, 2018, with a double-double of 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks against Portland State, and later scored a season-high 32 points in a loss to Texas Southern.
His freshman campaign was cut short on December 12, 2018, when he suffered a left foot injury during a win over San Diego. Despite the setback, Bol declared for the 2019 NBA Draft after the season.
Denver Nuggets Breakthrough (2019–2022)
Bol was selected with the 44th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat and was traded to the Denver Nuggets on draft night. He signed a two-way contract with the Nuggets on September 6, 2019, splitting time between Denver and the NBA G League’s Windy City Bulls. His first double-double in the G League came on November 20, recording 16 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

On January 19, 2022, Bol was traded to the Boston Celtics in a three-team deal and then moved again to the Orlando Magic on February 10. A foot injury kept him out for the remainder of the 2021–22 season. He re-signed with the Magic on July 7, 2022, and posted a career-high 26 points, alongside 12 rebounds and 3 blocks, on November 16 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Magic waived him on July 4, 2023.
Phoenix Suns Era (2023–2025)
The Phoenix Suns signed Bol to a one-year deal on July 18, 2023. After limited minutes early in the season, he recorded 11 points and a team-high 9 rebounds in a January 1, 2024 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. His most productive stretch came on February 23, 2024, when he posted season highs of 25 points and 14 rebounds off the bench in a loss to the Houston Rockets. Bol re-signed with the Suns on July 7, 2024.
