Brandon Wu Bio
Brandon Wu (born February 17, 1997) is an American professional golfer who currently plays on the DP World Tour and previously competed on the PGA Tour. A native of California who was raised across the United States and Asia, Wu emerged from Stanford University’s storied golf program and rose quickly through the developmental ranks. He won the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour Championship, a breakthrough that launched him onto the PGA Tour and into major-championship competition.
Early Life and Background
Brandon Wu was born on February 17, 1997, in Danville, California. He spent his early childhood in the state before his family relocated to Beijing when he was eight years old. For the next five years, Wu trained and competed on the junior golf circuit in China, an experience that sharpened his game and exposed him to international competition at a young age.
When Wu was 13, his family moved back to the United States and settled in Scarsdale, New York. He attended Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, a boarding school where he also swam on the school’s swim team. Wu has been listed at a height of 183 centimeters and makes his home in Dallas, Texas.
Path to Professional Golf
Wu attended Stanford University from 2015 to 2019, playing his college golf for the Stanford Cardinal men’s golf team. In his senior year, the Cardinal won the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship, a team title that highlighted Wu’s development inside one of the strongest programs in the country.
His amateur résumé also included a 2017 Porter Cup victory, a semifinal appearance at the 2018 Western Amateur, and appearances in the U.S. Amateur in 2018 and 2019, where he was the stroke-play medalist in his second start. Wu qualified for the 2019 Open Championship, was the qualifying medalist for that event, and tied for 35th at the 2019 U.S. Open with rounds of 71-69-71-74 (285, +1). He also represented the United States at the 2019 Walker Cup and the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup, and teamed with Stewart Hagestad, Emilia Migliaccio, and Rose Zhang to win the mixed team gold medal at the 2019 Pan American Games.
Brandon Wu Career
Early Career (2019-2020)
Brandon Wu turned professional in 2019 and joined the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour with conditional status earned through a tied 61st place at the 2019 Korn Ferry Tour Final Qualifying Tournament. He did not make a start until the 13th event of the season, the Price Cutter Charity Championship, where a tied ninth-place finish moved him up the priority list and opened the door to four more events.
In those subsequent tournaments, Wu was runner-up at the Albertsons Boise Open and won the Korn Ferry Tour Championship. The victory qualified him for the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York, near his family’s home in Scarsdale, though he missed the cut in that major.
Korn Ferry Tour Breakthrough (2020-2021)
Because the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour graduating class, the season extended into 2021. Across the combined 2020-21 campaign, Wu posted one win and seven top-10 finishes in 28 starts, finishing 16th on the points list. That performance earned him a spot on the 2021-22 PGA Tour.
PGA Tour Era (2021-2024)
Wu’s PGA Tour experience began slowly, as he missed the cut in nine of his first 10 tournaments. In March 2022, he broke that streak with a tie for third at the Puerto Rico Open, and a few weeks later he fired a tournament course-record 63 in the final round of the Mexico Open to finish tied for second, one stroke behind Jon Rahm. Additional top-10 finishes came at the Genesis Scottish Open and the Wyndham Championship, and he finished 82nd in the FedEx Cup standings to retain his PGA Tour card.
In the 2022-23 PGA Tour season, Wu made a series of cuts during the fall, and a final-round 66 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am lifted him into a tie for second, three strokes behind winner Justin Rose. He later took third place at the Mexico Open and tied for ninth at the RBC Canadian Open, ending the year 57th in the FedEx Cup standings.
In 2024, Wu’s fortunes took a downturn. He made only 15 of 30 cuts, with a best result of 10th at the ISCO Championship, and finished 153rd in the FedEx Cup standings, losing his PGA Tour card. Wu decided against a return to the Korn Ferry Tour and chose to play on the DP World Tour in 2025.

Wu’s signature moments include his 2020 Korn Ferry Tour Championship win, a course-record 63 in the final round of the Mexico Open in 2022, and a tie for second at the 2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He has competed in major championships, including the 2019 U.S. Open and the 2019 Open Championship.

2025 Season Performance
Brandon Wu entered 2025 without PGA Tour status after finishing 153rd in the 2024 FedEx Cup standings. He opted to play the season on the DP World Tour rather than return to the Korn Ferry Tour, marking a fresh chapter in his professional career and a return to international competition.
Wu’s 2025 schedule is built around the DP World Tour’s global calendar, giving him access to events in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The circuit also offers pathways back to the majors and the PGA Tour through ranking-based exemptions.
Coming off a difficult 2024 season in which he made only 15 of 30 cuts, Wu will look to recapture the form that produced his 2020 Korn Ferry Tour Championship win and his runner-up finishes at the Mexico Open and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Strong play on the DP World Tour could position him for a return to major-championship fields and a shot at regaining PGA Tour membership.
