Bio
Justin Howard Watson (born April 4, 1996) is an American professional football wide receiver for the Houston Texans of the National Football League (NFL). Early Life and Background
Justin Howard Watson was born on April 4, 1996, in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, in the United States. He grew up in the same western Pennsylvania region that produced a long line of football talent, and he attended South Fayette High School. At South Fayette, he developed into a 3-star wide receiver recruit, drawing attention from college programs for his size, hands, and route-running instincts.
Coming out of high school, Watson was rated as a 3-star prospect at the wide receiver position. He received interest from several college programs and ultimately chose to take his game to the Ivy League, committing to play for the University of Pennsylvania over an offer from Bucknell. His decision to pursue a Penn education while continuing to play at a high level reflected a balance between academics and athletics that defined his early path in the sport.
Path to Professional Football
Watson joined the Penn Quakers in 2014 and quickly became a focal point of their passing attack. In 40 career games at Penn from 2014 to 2017, he recorded 286 receptions for 3,777 yards and 33 touchdowns, and added 44 carries for 339 yards and one rushing touchdown. His production steadily increased each season, and he emerged as one of the most productive wide receivers in Ivy League history.
As a senior in 2017, Watson was named Third-team FCS All-American at wide receiver after posting 81 receptions for 1,083 yards and 14 touchdowns, the latter a school record. He finished his college career as a three-time First-team All-Ivy League selection (2015, 2016, and 2017) and a two-time Ivy League champion in 2015 and 2016. Watson also set Penn career records for receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, and all-purpose yards, and he still holds the record for the most receiving yards in conference play in Ivy League history. That production led to his selection in the 2018 NFL draft and a transition to the professional level.
