Mikkel Uhre Bio
Mikael Brandhof Uhre is a Danish professional footballer who plays as a forward for the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer. A youth product of SønderjyskE, Uhre enjoyed his breakthrough in the second tier for Skive during the 2015–16 season. He became known for his physical strength, speed, and aerial ability, which led to his signing by Brøndby in 2018. Uhre eventually became the top goalscorer in the league, contributing significantly to Brøndby’s success in the 2020–21 Danish Superliga season before moving to Philadelphia Union in 2022.
Early Life and Background
Mikael Brandhof Uhre was born on 30 September 1994 in Ribe, Denmark. He grew up in a region with deep football roots, and as a young boy he played for local club Skovlund IF before moving to Grindsted GIF at the age of 12. During his teenage years he had a brief trial with FC Midtjylland but did not earn a spot with the club.
After primary school, Uhre attended Sportsefterskolen SINE, an efterskole in Løgumkloster that specializes in sports and education. One of his teachers at the school encouraged him to try out for a top-flight club, and it was that push that led him to the SønderjyskE youth academy. Standing 188 centimeters tall, he developed a striker’s frame that would later become one of his biggest assets.
Path to Soccer
Uhre made his senior debut for SønderjyskE on 28 March 2013, coming on as an 88th-minute substitute in a 5–0 away win over Silkeborg IF. The following month he signed his first professional contract with the club, beginning his climb through the Danish football system. In August 2014, he was sent on a six-month loan to second-tier side Skive IK, where he played under an amateur deal while working at an office on weekdays.
That loan gave him regular minutes in the Danish 1st Division. He made 13 league appearances and scored three goals during his first spell at Skive. After returning to SønderjyskE for half a year, he signed permanently with Skive for the 2015–16 season. In his only full campaign at the club, Uhre scored 15 goals in 33 appearances, finishing just two behind the league’s top goalscorer, Kjartan Finnbogason. The form earned him a return to SønderjyskE on a three-year contract in June 2016 and a place in the top flight.

Uhre’s first run with SønderjyskE gave him his initial taste of Superliga football, and his 2016 return placed him in the senior setup on a more stable footing. He made his Europa League debut on 14 July 2016, appearing in a 2–1 win over Norwegian side Strømsgodset. Three days later, he played his first Superliga match after rejoining the club, a 2–1 loss to AGF.

The transfer fee was later reported at around 3 million Danish kroner. Uhre made his Brøndby debut on 16 July 2018 in a 2–0 away win over Randers FC, and later that month he came off the bench to score a late winner in a 2–1 victory against Hobro IK. He finished 2018–19 with 6 goals in 28 league matches, often as a substitute for Kamil Wilczek and Simon Hedlund.
The 2020–21 season marked Uhre’s true arrival. On 14 March 2021, he scored a perfect hat-trick in the first half against Odense Boldklub, all assisted by Jesper Lindstrøm, in a 0–3 win that put Brøndby top of the table. He scored a brace against AGF on 20 May 2021 to move Brøndby into first place with one match to go. On 24 May 2021, Brøndby sealed their first league title in 16 years with a 2–0 win over Nordsjælland, and Uhre finished the season as the Superliga’s top goalscorer with 19 goals. He was later named Danish Superliga Player of the Season.
Philadelphia Union Era (2022–Present)
In January 2022, Uhre signed with the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer as a designated player through the 2024 season, with a club option for 2025. Philadelphia reportedly paid a club record transfer fee of $2.8 million to acquire him. He joined a Philadelphia side that had won the 2020 MLS Supporters’ Shield and quickly became an attacking focal point for the club.
On 22 April 2023, Uhre scored a hat-trick in a 4–2 home win over Toronto FC, the first hat-trick of his professional career, and was named MLS Player of the Matchday. He earned his first call-up to the Denmark senior national team in November 2021, making his senior debut as a substitute in a 2–0 loss to Scotland at Hampden Park in 2022 World Cup qualifying.
Playing Style and Strengths
Uhre is recognized for his physical strength, straight-line speed, and aerial ability. His 188-centimeter frame makes him a constant threat from crosses and set pieces, and his direct running style suits a counter-attacking system. At Brøndby he flourished in a partnership that allowed him to attack the channels, while at Philadelphia he has been used as a central target man in transition.
Notable Events and Milestones
Uhre’s most signature moment came in the 2020–21 Danish Superliga season, when his 19 goals made him the league’s top scorer and helped Brøndby end a 16-year title drought. Other milestones include his hat-trick against Odense Boldklub, his Europa League bow for SønderjyskE in 2016, and his first career hat-trick in MLS against Toronto FC in April 2023.

Mikkel Uhre Family
Family Background and Soccer Lineage
Public information about Uhre’s parents and broader family is limited. His path into professional football was shaped largely by local clubs in southern Jutland and the encouragement of a teacher at Sportsefterskolen SINE rather than by a family football background.
Personal Life
Uhre has kept much of his personal life out of the public eye. He was born and raised in Ribe, Denmark, and is known by his full name Mikael Brandhof Uhre.
2025 Season Performance
Heading into 2025, Uhre remains under contract with the Philadelphia Union after signing a designated-player deal that runs through 2024 with a club option for 2025. His 2023 hat-trick against Toronto FC underlined his value as a focal point in attack, and Philadelphia will look to him for consistent goalscoring in the new campaign.
The Union have continued to build around his physical profile, using his aerial ability as a central weapon in their system. With the club option extending into 2025, both player and team have a clear runway to extend their partnership, and Uhre’s role in the locker room and on the score sheet will be a key storyline to watch.
For Uhre personally, 2025 represents a chance to push his MLS goal tally higher and to re-establish himself among the league’s more dangerous strikers. After a Superliga scoring crown in 2021, his next milestone target is a sustained run of double-digit league seasons in Major League Soccer.
