Nyara Sabally (born 26 February 2000) is a German-American professional basketball player who plays for the New York Liberty of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). A 6-foot-5 forward, she has built her career around rebounding, interior scoring, and steady defensive play. In addition to her playing duties, Sabally has also worked as an assistant coach at Sacramento State. She is widely recognized for winning a WNBA championship with the Liberty in 2024.

Sabally joined Oregon in time for the 2017 signing class but sat out the 2018–19 freshman season after tearing her ACL during the FIBA U18 championship. She then re-tore the same ACL in the summer of 2019, causing her to miss a second consecutive season and earn redshirt status. The injuries tested her patience and required two separate surgeries before she finally returned to the court.
During the 2020–21 redshirt sophomore season, Sabally played in 23 of Oregon’s 24 games and made 21 starts. She led the team in scoring with 12.9 points per game and rebounding at 7.3 per game, while also leading the Ducks in field goals made (122), double-doubles (4), and double-figure scoring games (19). WNBA Career with the New York Liberty (2022–Present)
On 11 April 2022, Sabally was selected fifth overall by the New York Liberty in the 2022 WNBA Draft. Just four days later, Liberty general manager Jonathan Kolb announced that she would miss the 2022 season after aggravating the same right knee that had twice required ACL surgery. She spent the year rehabilitating while learning the Liberty’s system and preparing for her official debut. On 12 July 2022, she was also named an assistant coach at Sacramento State, contributing to the Hornets’ 25–8 record, Big Sky Conference regular season and tournament championships, and their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance in 2023.
