Wayne Alix Frederick II (born June 13, 2004) is an American-born footballer who plays as a forward for Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids. Although born in the United States, he represents the Trinidad and Tobago national team at the international level. A highly regarded youth prospect, Frederick rose through the ranks of Bethesda SC and Duke University before being selected second overall in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft.

Wayne Alix Frederick II was born on June 13, 2004, in Cabin John, Maryland, United States. He grew up in the greater Washington, D.C., area and began playing organized youth soccer with Bethesda SC in 2014. Over the next eight years, he developed his game within one of the region’s most competitive youth soccer setups.
Frederick attended St. Albans School in Washington, D.C., where he played for the boys’ soccer team. During his high school career, he earned 2021 All-American honors, won a D.C. State Championship, and was named the 2021 D.C. State Player of the Year. He also collected All-Conference recognition in 2019 and 2021 and was nominated for the 2022 D.C. Gatorade Player of the Year Award.
He is the son of Wayne A. I. Frederick, the former president of Howard University, which gave the young athlete a strong academic and professional foundation alongside his athletic development.
Path to Soccer
Frederick’s progression from local youth soccer to the national stage began in earnest at Bethesda SC, where he spent eight formative years refining his technical skills. His performances at St. Albans School drew attention from college recruiters, and he committed to Duke University in 2022.
At Duke, Frederick played for the Duke Blue Devils men’s soccer team, quickly establishing himself as a contributor. On October 4, 2022, he scored his first collegiate goal in a victory over the Howard Bison.
