Jennifer Lawrence Wants a Do-Over for Her SNL Debut

Jennifer Lawrence expressed a desire for a second chance at hosting Saturday Night Live, reflecting on her 2013 appearance with some regret. The actress discussed her experience during an interview on Amy Poehler‘s Good Hang podcast, emphasizing how circumstances made her original hosting stint overwhelming and challenging.

Challenging Conditions During SNL Hosting

At 35 years old, Jennifer Lawrence shared that her memory of hosting the popular live sketch show SNL is affected by the difficult situation she faced at the time. She revealed that she was battling walking pneumonia while simultaneously balancing intense work commitments.

“I have to go back and do it again because I had walking pneumonia,”

she explained.

Adding to her stress, Lawrence was deeply involved in filming the Hunger Games series. She detailed,

“I was shooting, I think the second one, while doing all of this campaign and I would have to like fly, go to a party, shake hands and then land and shoot… poor me! But I was very tired.”

Feeling Untested and Unprepared on Live TV

The actress candidly admitted that she was at a difficult stage of her life during her SNL hosting, uncertain of how to tackle some expectations, particularly around performing impressions. She remembered feeling hesitant and unsure when asked if she could mimic famous personalities, saying,

“I don’t want to be like, ‘And I can do this and I can do that!’”

She elaborated on her reluctance, sharing,

“I just kind of made everything like everybody else’s problem. I was like, ‘I don’t know how to do that. I can’t do that.’”

Lawrence’s comment illustrates her sense of vulnerability and frustration under pressure during her initial live comedy experience.

Regretting Her Press Tour Intensity

Beyond the live performance, Jennifer Lawrence reflected on the exhausting nature of her promotional activities following the show. She joked about wanting to reduce her press tour commitments, as her interviews often yielded sensational quotes that spread widely.

“I should do half than what normal people do, because I see my quotes and like… they’re insane,”

she remarked.

One example she gave was,

“Like ‘Jennifer Lawrence calls Kourtney Kardashian annoying!’ Like it’s just too… it carries.”

Despite her occasional frustration with media portrayals, Jennifer remains a devoted reality TV fan, specifically of The Kardashians, although not without some comic irritation directed at Kourtney Kardashian.

Jennifer Lawrence’s Take on Kourtney Kardashian

During a lie detector segment with Robert Pattinson for Vanity Fair, Lawrence described her views on Kourtney Kardashian. She said,

“Kourtney is more annoying than ever. She drives me nuts.”

Jennifer explained that Kourtney’s persistent need to make public announcements about personal choices can be grating.

She provided examples of Kourtney’s public declarations, such as choosing not to wear outfits anymore or removing a TV from her room, and advised,

“Or like, ‘I don’t have a TV in my room.’ Like, just don’t watch TV. Stop announcing it. Just shhh!”

The Importance of a Fresh Opportunity

Jennifer Lawrence’s reflections reveal how her brief but eventful experience on SNL was shaped by external pressures and personal challenges, including health struggles and competing career demands. Desiring a do-over emphasizes how crucial a supportive environment can be for an actor stepping into live comedy for the first time.

Her openness about this moment of vulnerability sheds light on the rigors behind high-profile television appearances and suggests that, with a fresh start, Jennifer might deliver a more relaxed and confident performance. Fans may look forward to the possibility of her returning to SNL under better circumstances, where she can showcase her full range without distractions.
