Ralph Fiennes, the actor who famously portrayed Voldemort in the Harry Potter films, has stirred fresh speculation that Cillian Murphy might succeed him as the Dark Lord in the forthcoming HBO Harry Potter series. This tease arrives despite Murphy previously denying involvement in the role while discussing the series.

Last year, Murphy, the acclaimed Cork actor, explicitly stated he would not be playing Voldemort. During a conversation on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, when questioned about circulating online fan theories linking him to the villain’s role, Murphy answered simply: No. He mentioned that his children had pointed out such rumours on social media but confirmed he had no direct knowledge of who was cast as Voldemort.

Fiennes Praises Successor and Hints at Casting Decision

In a recent red carpet interview for

Fiennes was asked who might carry on the role of Voldemort in the new series. His response suggested the role had already been assigned:

Well, I’m told they’re already filled, aren’t they?

When pressed further on who he thought was suitable to follow in his footsteps, Fiennes commended Murphy, saying:

I’ve already said I think Cillian Murphy is very good, a very good choice. I think they’ve cast it, haven’t they? Or they haven’t, oh, I don’t know, I thought they had.

He then laughed softly and exited the conversation.

Earlier, Fiennes remarked on the challenges of succeeding him by stating,
