Greg Focker is set to make a comeback in the latest installment of the Focker franchise, Focker In-Law. This new film reunites Ben Stiller’s character with Robert De Niro’s Jack Burns, introducing a fresh chapter as Greg’s adult son, Henry (played by Skyler Gisondo), brings his partner (Ariana Grande) into the family fold. The movie explores familiar family dynamics while injecting new energy into the series.
Ben Stiller Explores the Next Generation of Family Dynamics
Ben Stiller, who famously portrayed Greg Focker in Meet the Parents and its sequels, discussed the direction of the new film in a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly. He explained that the premise felt natural for the series, with Greg now occupying the age Jack Byrnes was when Greg married his daughter. This parallel sets up a comedic yet relatable experience for Greg as he navigates the challenges of being the parent of an adult child starting his own family.
The setup of the movie really seemed to make sense, which is why we wanted to do it,
Stiller shared.
Greg Focker is now the age that Jack Byrnes was when Greg married his daughter, and now he’s going through this same experience.
Ariana Grande Brings New Energy to the Franchise
Joining the franchise for her first movie role post-Wicked, Ariana Grande injects a fresh presence into the series. Stiller praised her professionalism and comedic timing, highlighting how her lively energy revitalized the project. Her involvement adds a modern sensibility that complements the film’s established tone and humor.

It was great to have her energy coming into this franchise that has been around a long time, and we hadn’t done for a very long time,
Stiller noted.
She’s incredibly professional, and watching her on SNL, she knows comedy, and she was just a joy to work with. I had a blast working with her, and I think what she brought to the movie is just a very, very new sensibility that also felt very much like it worked within the tone of the movie.
The On-Screen Chemistry Between De Niro and Grande
Stiller also highlighted the playful relationship between Robert De Niro and Ariana Grande on set. De Niro, known for his intense roles, was described as both intimidating and hilariously charming, offering a dynamic blend that shines through in the film’s comedic moments. Their interaction plays a key role in illustrating Greg’s perpetual feeling of exclusion within the family structure.
Bob is such a fun guy,
Stiller said of De Niro.
He’s so funny in life, and the great thing about him is he could be the most intense, scary person in the world, but he also could be the most fun, lovable guy in the world. That’s what’s so brilliant about him and his movies. He really always understood how to play the comedy.
Reflecting on the duo’s scenes, Stiller added,
Watching him and her together — I can’t really give away too much, but the connection between them in the film is pretty fun. And it plays into the dynamic of Greg Focker always kind of being stuck on the outside.
Ben Stiller’s Recent Collaborations with Music Stars
Besides his Focker role, Stiller recently worked with musician Benson Boone on a humorous Instacart campaign about banana ripeness, directed by Spike Jonze. The ads culminate in a commercial scheduled to air during the Super Bowl, showing Stiller and Boone performing in a retro-style broadcast. Stiller expressed admiration for Boone’s natural acting and comedic skills, despite the singer’s limited screen experience.
First of all, he’s so talented. He’s got such a great, open attitude towards trying something,
Stiller said.
I don’t think he’s done a lot of acting, and he just jumped into the improv, and he just has this incredible ability to put himself out there, in his musical talent, his physical abilities, and his willingness to kind of go and have fun.
Further praising Boone’s versatility, Stiller remarked,
What I was most excited about is that this guy’s really an actor, and it was cool to see that, Oh, he could do this if he wanted to do it,
adding,
And he also seems like he discovered he was a singer when he was, I don’t know, 18 or 19. He didn’t even start out singing when he was a kid, and he was more of an athlete who then discovered he could sing. So I feel like on this spot, he discovered he can improvise and do comedy, too.
What to Expect from Focker In-Law
With the return of Ben Stiller’s Greg Focker, Robert De Niro’s Jack Burns, and the introduction of Ariana Grande’s new character, Focker In-Law promises to blend nostalgia with fresh perspectives on family life. The film’s exploration of the in-law dynamic from both sides offers a humorous yet heartfelt continuation of the beloved franchise. Fans can anticipate a mix of classic comedy and new sensibilities that make the Focker saga resonate with a new generation.
