Amy Adams’ New Film ‘At the Sea’ Joins Berlinale Lineup

MK2 Films, the Paris-based company known for backing best picture contenders, has acquired Kornél Mundruczó’s latest film At the Sea, featuring Oscar-nominated Amy Adams. The movie is set for its world premiere in competition at this year’s Berlinale festival.

This new project by renowned Hungarian director Mundruczó, who has a strong presence at international film festivals, continues his streak following acclaimed films like White God and Pieces of a Woman. At the Sea centers on Laura, played by Adams, who returns to her family home in Cape Cod after completing rehab for a drunk-driving incident. As she faces her past and her fractured relationships, including those within her dance company, Laura struggles to emerge from the shadow cast by her famous, complex father.

Plot and Central Themes Explored in ‘At the Sea’

In the film, Laura’s journey is an intense process of confronting her trauma and rebuilding her life amid personal demons and family tensions. The story examines the challenges of recovery and the struggle to redefine oneself beyond the legacy of a problematic parent. This deeply emotional narrative is enhanced by Adams’ portrayal of a woman striving to reclaim control over her life.

Amy Adams leads a talented ensemble including Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus), Chloe East (The Fabelmans), Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso), Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek), Jenny Slate (Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Rainn Wilson (The Office). The film’s producers include Oscar-nominated Alexander Rodnyansky of AR Content, Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett of Ryder Picture Company, Stuart Manashil, Mundruczó himself via Proton Cinema, and Alex Lebovici of Hammerstone Studios.
