Mark Ruffalo Denies Disney Fired Him Over Controversy

Mark Ruffalo, known for his role as The Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), firmly denied rumors that Disney fired him following his outspoken criticism of President Donald Trump and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents after the death of Renee Nicole Good in Minnesota on January 7. Speaking at the Golden Globes last month, Ruffalo condemned the administration and ICE in strong terms, sparking widespread discussion and online backlash related to the incident and his statements.

Strong Political Statements Trigger Speculation

At the Golden Globes, Ruffalo described ICE agents as “literal stormtroopers” and called President Trump

“a convicted felon, a convicted rapist. He’s a pedophile. He’s the worst human being.”

He continued by condemning reliance on the moral judgment of the current administration, warning that

“If we’re relying on this guy’s morality for the most powerful country in the world, then we’re all in a lot of trouble.”

These remarks led to unfounded social media rumors claiming that Disney had terminated his contract, a claim not supported by any official sources.

Clarifications on Ruffalo’s Status with Disney

While promoting his new film Crime 101 alongside Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry, Ruffalo was directly asked about the rumors of his firing. He responded with a smile, saying,

“People keep going like, ‘Did you get fired?’ Not that I know of!”

Chris Hemsworth quickly dismissed the rumors as false, calling them nonsense. Ruffalo then added,

“I’ll be there as long as they’ll have me, but I have a good relationship with them. Who knows, there might be things I’m already doing that… [Laughs] I’m around, let me just say that.”

This exchange confirmed that Ruffalo remains actively involved with MCU projects.

Current and Future MCU Projects Involving Ruffalo

Ruffalo’s comments leave some ambiguity about which upcoming MCU films he referred to, but it is confirmed that he is involved in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. His participation in Avengers: Doomsday is less certain, though expectations remain high for his return as The Hulk in Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for release in December 2027. The Avengers films are directed by the Russo Brothers, with screenplays by Stephen McFeely and contributions from Michael Waldron, known for his work on Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Significance of Ruffalo’s Stance and Disney’s Position

Mark Ruffalo has long been outspoken about political issues, which adds to the controversy surrounding his recent comments. Despite the current trend in some studios to maintain favorable relations with the political administration, Disney appears to have maintained its supportive relationship with Ruffalo. His ongoing involvement in MCU projects underscores the studio’s willingness to collaborate with actors who express their views candidly, even when those views spark public debate and frustration.
