Margot Robbie Reveals the Impossible X-Rated Scene She Refused

Margot Robbie disclosed details about an X-rated scene from The Wolf of Wall Street that she declined to perform, calling it impossible to execute. The actress, known for her role as Naomi Lapaglia opposite Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort, shared her experiences from the film, emphasizing her refusal of a challenging scripted moment.

The Iconic Nursery Seduction Scene and Its Origins

In the film, Naomi seduces Jordan in their child’s nursery, a memorable scene where Naomi presses her stiletto heel into Jordan’s face. This moment became so well-known that Dr. Nadine Macaluso, on whom Robbie’s character is partly based, responded publicly about its authenticity.

Dr. Macaluso addressed the scene’s realism, saying,

“So many of you ask me – ‘is that scene in the nursery real?’ Well, I’m gonna break it down for you. Do you remember that scene where Margot is laying back and Jordan comes in and Margot – me – had the baby in her arms and she’s so mad at him for cheating on her for the hundredth time, and so she’s in the nursery and she lifts up her leg and says ‘there’s going to be nothing but short skirts around here’ – did that ever happen?”

She added,

“No way! I am not that sexy. I wish I was, but I think that was my ex-husband’s fantasy of what he wanted me to be like. Secondly, there were cameras in the room, but I did not perform that sexual seductive act towards him.”

The Scene Margot Robbie Deemed ‘Impossible’

Margot revealed that in the original script she was expected to pull aside her underwear solely using her heel, a stunt she firmly believed was unachievable. She stated,

“I remember thinking when I read it, ‘That’s just impossible’. I was like, ‘No, I’m right, that is absolutely impossible.’”

This particular moment was ultimately removed from the final cut of the movie.

Challenges Faced Filming the Seduction Scene

Despite its on-screen allure, Robbie explained the difficulty of filming the nursery scene, due to the cramped environment and crew presence. She said,

“It doesn’t come across when you’re watching the movie, but in reality we’re in a tiny bedroom with 30 crew crammed in. All men. And for 17 hours I’m pretending to be touching myself. It’s just a very weird thing and you have to bury the embarrassment and absurdity, really deep, and fully commit.”

Physical Toll on Margot Robbie During Filming

Robbie also shared the physical discomfort she endured during another scene involving her character atop a pile of fake cash. She humorously advised,

“If anyone is ever planning on having sex on top of a pile of cash: don’t.”

She described how the experience left her with numerous paper cuts, joking that the crew remarked it looked as if she had been “whipped a million times.”

Robbie’s Commitment to Authenticity in Nude Scenes

Margot confirmed she was offered the choice to avoid nudity but chose otherwise, emphasizing the importance of being fully exposed for the part. She explained of her character’s intentions,

“The whole point is that she’s going to come out completely naked – that’s the card she’s playing right now.”

The Importance of Margot Robbie’s Stand in the Film

Margot Robbie’s refusal to perform the impossible scene highlights her dedication to realism and comfort in her roles, even in movies known for provocative content like The Wolf of Wall Street. Her candid remarks give audiences insight into the challenges behind filming explicit scenes and the physical and emotional demands placed on actors. This honesty contributes to a broader discussion on boundaries and authenticity in filmmaking, suggesting that future productions might benefit from accommodating actors’ limits to maintain genuine performances without undue strain.
