Rumer Willis Reveals She Works 4 Jobs as a Single Mom

Rumer Willis, daughter of Hollywood icons Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, has opened up about juggling four jobs while raising her daughter as a single mother. The 37-year-old actress and executive shared her daily struggles on Instagram to clarify that she does not rely on family wealth or trust funds to support her child, highlighting the reality of her responsibilities.

Rumer Willis Faces Criticism and Responds to Negative Comments

After sharing a candid post about her busy life as a single mother, Rumer Willis received harsh backlash online, prompting her to explain her situation publicly. She emphasized that she is the sole provider for her daughter, Louetta Isley Thomas Willis, and that she manages her financial obligations without help from her famous parents. Willis said,

“Just had to clarify since it seems there are quite a few uninformed and rude people in my comments on this post. I work 4 different jobs to provide for my daughter. I am the sole provider for her. I don’t live off a trust fund or get money from my parents. Most of the time, I don’t have help with her. So how about y’all pause before you judge and assume,” Willis wrote.

This comment came after Willis posted a reel with the caption:

“The to-do list is never-ending. I need a nap and a duvet day asap.”

The video illustrated the overwhelming chores she handles as a single mom, from laundry and meal preparation to bath time and journaling, reflecting the non-stop nature of her daily life.

An Overview of Rumer Willis’ Background and Career

Rumer Rue Glenn Willis was born in Paducah, Kentucky, in August 1988, named partly after British novelist Rumer Godden and partly in honor of Glenn Gordon Caron, who helped launch her father’s career. She grew up alongside her sisters, Scout and Tallulah.

Willis started acting as a child with roles in her mother’s film Now and Then and playing Demi Moore’s onscreen daughter in Striptease. She also shared the screen with her father in the movie Hostage, portraying their real-life relationship. Her acting resume spans several movies such as Sorority Row, The House Bunny, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, as well as television series including CW’s 90210, Fox’s Empire, ABC’s Doctor Odyssey, and Hulu’s Reasonable Doubt.

On stage, Rumer Willis appeared in the off-Broadway production Love, Loss, and What I Wore and made her Broadway debut in 2015 as Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago. Beyond acting, she appeared in music videos for collaborations with rapper Shwayze and pop star Cher.

Educationally, Willis attended Wildwood School in Los Angeles and briefly studied at the University of Southern California before graduating from Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. Earlier in her career, she auditioned for the role of Serena van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl, a part that ultimately went to Blake Lively.

Rumer won the 20th season of Dancing with the Stars and was the 2008 Miss Golden Globe. That same year, she became a spokesperson for the apparel brand Ocean Pacific.

Personal Life and Recent Work Ventures

Willis has been romantically linked to several public figures, including Rafi Gavron, Harry Morton, Micah Alberty, Jayson Blair, Chord Overstreet, Ricky Whittle, Armie Hammer, and Val Chmerkovskiy. She shares her daughter Louetta, born in April 2023, with singer Derek Thomas Richard, with whom she was in a relationship from 2020 to 2024.

After becoming a mother, Willis collaborated with pediatric brand Bumpsuit to create a baby carrier named Lou Blue. In May of last year, she also announced her role as Chief Creative Officer at Sereniby, a company specializing in nursery air purifiers. She expressed her enthusiasm for the position, stating,

“After some fantastic conversations, I am super excited to announce that I have officially joined Sereniby as their Chief Creative Officer. And we have so many exciting things in store for you.”

Willis explained the natural fit of the partnership, saying,

“This partnership came together so organically that it felt like a full-body yes from the start. I’ve always cared deeply about creating a safe, healthy space for myself and now, more than ever, for Lou.”

She emphasized the importance of protecting the air infants breathe, calling attention to the sensitivity and sacredness of their developing bodies. Willis added,

“I’m looking forward to dreaming, designing, and building something beautiful and intentional together,” Willis concluded.

Rumer Willis Addresses Privilege and Her Own Challenges

In responding to criticism, Willis acknowledged her privileged upbringing as the daughter of famous parents but clarified that her recent post was not about comparing hardships or ignoring those privileges. She stated,

“I know there are realities that I will never fully experience, and I regret that. But this particular post wasn’t about privilege or comparing circumstances, and it feels like people are assuming I was ignoring that when that wasn’t the conversation I was trying to have,” the mother of one stated.

Willis described her approach to family support as a backup plan rather than a primary resource, expressing pride in providing for herself and her child despite real financial pressures. She revealed,

“There were years where I was the sole provider for multiple people, navigating pregnancy, inconsistent work, and the uncertainty that comes with that,” Rue stated.

Her intention with the original post was to connect with other single mothers through shared experience rather than diminish anyone’s struggles. Willis explained,

“I think there’s room for both compassion for what others face and honesty about our own lives without it becoming a competition,” Rumer Willis concluded.

Family Dynamics and Current Status of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore

Rumer Willis also manages her own brand, Rumer Has It. She has two stepsisters, Mabel and Evelyn, from her father Bruce Willis’s marriage to Emma Heming, an actress-producer. Bruce Willis was diagnosed in 2022 with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, which led to his retirement from acting. Though divorced, Demi Moore continues to serve as his primary caregiver and close friend.

Moore recently won a Golden Globe for her 2024 film The Substance and maintains an active career, appearing on the TV series Landman while remaining a fashion icon and global brand ambassador for Kerastase.
