James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, firmly denied rumors that the Batman trilogy is being rushed, particularly the third installment featuring Robert Pattinson. In response to speculation that the studio aims to fast-track The Batman – Part III to avoid overlapping with the upcoming The Brave and The Bold movie, Gunn clarified the situation on social media.
On Threads, Gunn stated,
“I don’t know what that is but I’m not fast tracking anything other than our scripts currently getting ready to go into production.”
When informed about reports that writer Daniel RPK was told the trilogy’s conclusion was being expedited, he responded,
“That’s incorrect. Well I mean I don’t know if it’s incorrect that DPK was told that, but the information is incorrect.”
Upcoming Batman Sequel in Development Under Matt Reeves
The sequel, The Batman – Part II, remains in pre-production with Robert Pattinson set to reprise his role. Directed by filmmaker Matt Reeves, the new chapter is highly anticipated by fans and industry observers alike. Colin Farrell, returning as The Penguin, hinted at a darker and more intense storyline compared to the 2022 release, despite his character receiving less screen time.
Farrell shared with The Hollywood Reporter,
“I’ve got an even smaller role in this one. But I’m OK with that … I’ve read the script, from start to finish, and I can’t say much about it.”
He added,
“But it’s deeper, scarier, the stakes are bigger. I’m really excited to see it.”
Reflecting on his longtime admiration for the Batman universe, Farrell remarked,
“Just to be part of that world … Honestly, just to be in something that takes place in Gotham, where a character called Bruce Wayne and Batman exist, is such a joy for me.”

New Batman Storyline Introduces Damian Wayne in The Brave and The Bold
Meanwhile, DC Studios revealed last month that Christina Hodson, known for her work on films such as Bumblebee, Birds of Prey, and The Flash, is writing the script for The Brave and The Bold. This fresh take on the Batman saga draws inspiration from Grant Morrison’s comics and centers on a partnership between Batman and Robin—specifically Damian Wayne, a deadly child assassin and Bruce Wayne’s secret son.
A source cited by The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Hodson has been working on the screenplay since at least autumn of the previous year, while another insider indicated that DC Studios is proceeding cautiously and has yet to finalize the script draft.
Gunn and Peter Safran, the leaders of DC Studios, introduced plans for The Brave and The Bold in January 2023. They confirmed that Robert Pattinson would not portray the Batman in this storyline.
At that time, James Gunn said,
“This is the introduction of the DCU Batman, of Bruce Wayne, and also introduces Robin, Damian Wayne, who is a little son of a b****.”

He further described the story as
“It’s a very strange father-and-son story.”

Implications for the Future of the Batman Franchise
James Gunn’s clear rejection of the fast-tracking rumors suggests a careful and deliberate approach to the development of the Batman trilogy. While fans anxiously await new films, the focus remains on quality storytelling over rushed production. The evolving depiction of Gotham and its characters, highlighted by the complicated relationship between Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne, signals exciting narrative directions for the DC Universe.
As pre-production progresses on The Batman – Part II and the script for The Brave and The Bold takes shape, audiences can expect a layered and intense portrayal of the Caped Crusader’s world. The interplay between these projects may influence how the Batman saga unfolds over the next several years under the guidance of James Gunn, Peter Safran, and Matt Reeves.
