Harvey Weinstein Blasts Gwyneth Paltrow in Prison Interview

Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood film producer, has launched a fierce attack on Gwyneth Paltrow in a prison interview while describing his difficult conditions on Rikers Island, New York City. The confrontation adds a volatile new chapter to the ongoing fallout from the allegations that fueled the #MeToo movement.

Weinstein Denounces Gwyneth Paltrow’s Claims During Prison Interview

While incarcerated at Rikers Island, Weinstein accused Gwyneth Paltrow of exaggerating an encounter they had when she was 22. He claimed the actress made “a big deal over nothing” after he offered her a massage following a meeting in his hotel suite, despite her declining the offer.

In an interview published on March 10, Weinstein said,

“I walked out of a nice meeting with her and said, ‘How about a massage?’ And she just went, ‘No, I don’t think so.’ I got the message. I never put my hands on her,”

challenging the version Paltrow shared publicly.

Weinstein also mentioned that Paltrow told her boyfriend at the time, Brad Pitt, about the incident. He recounted,

“Brad Pitt came to me and said, ‘Don’t do anything like that with my girl.’ I said ‘Don’t worry, Brad. I got it.’”

The producer labeled Paltrow’s public revelations as a betrayal.

“But then Gwyneth goes on Howard Stern and The New York Times and makes a big deal about it all. She knows that nothing happened,”

he said, adding,

“This person who was a friend, who owes her career to me, just stabs me in the back.”

Details of Paltrow’s Allegations Against Weinstein

Gwyneth Paltrow described being summoned to Weinstein’s hotel suite under the pretense of a professional meeting, where he then touched her without consent and suggested a massage. She recalled feeling frightened due to her role as the lead in the film Emma and fearing repercussions.

After reporting the incident to close friends and Brad Pitt, Paltrow said Weinstein reprimanded her for sharing the experience.

“I was expected to keep the secret,”

she noted. When she eventually spoke out publicly in 2017, she admitted it was a terrifying decision but felt compelled by the scope of Weinstein’s misconduct.

“And once I did, I thought: ‘I have no choice here, I have to say something.’”

she stated, emphasizing the necessity of revealing the truth despite the personal risks.

Having worked with Weinstein in the early 2000s, Paltrow described his behavior as often unpredictable—sometimes supportive and generous, but at other times punitive and intimidating.

Context of Multiple Allegations and the #MeToo Movement

Paltrow’s accusations were among over 80 made against Weinstein following the groundbreaking 2017 New York Times investigation by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey. Many women, including Rose McGowan, Rosanna Arquette, and Angelina Jolie, stepped forward to describe instances of inappropriate and predatory behavior by Weinstein that had long been an open secret in Hollywood.

Weinstein has consistently denied wrongdoing. In the same interview, he dismissed several of his accusers, saying,

“Rose McGowan, Rosanna Arquette, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie — they just exaggerated,”

and claimed,

“They wanted to be victims. They wanted to be part of the club. And they destroyed me.”

Actress Angelina Jolie also told The New York Times that Weinstein made unwanted advances towards her during the late 1990s, which she rejected.

The issue had become widely acknowledged in the industry, with comedian Seth MacFarlane joking at the 2013 Oscars,

“Congratulations! You five ladies no longer have to pretend to be attracted to Harvey Weinstein.”

Weinstein’s Current Incarceration and Harsh Prison Experiences

Weinstein is imprisoned on Rikers Island after a 16-year sentence following his California conviction in 2022 for sexually assaulting an actress at a Beverly Hills hotel. In 2025, he was also found guilty of a criminal sexual act related to a 2006 assault on Miriam Haley, a TV production assistant.

The former executive portrayed his time at Rikers as isolating and dangerous.

“I just speak to the guards. And the nurses. That’s the extent of my socializing here,”

he said, describing his wing as a place where there is “no socializing” due to the prison’s harsh conditions.

He added that one inmate punched him in the face after Weinstein asked if the person was done using a phone.

“I fell on the floor, bleeding everywhere,”

he related, but declined to identify the assailant, citing prison codes against snitching.

Feeling constantly threatened, Weinstein revealed how other prisoners demand money, legal help, or favors.

“They come up and say, ‘Weinstein, give me some money.’ ‘Weinstein, give me your lawyer.’ ‘Weinstein, do this.’ ‘Weinstein, do that.’ I’m constantly threatened and derided.”

He expressed desperation to return to state prison, where conditions allowed him some companionship and the ability to watch television with others, unlike the isolating environment at Rikers.

The Long-Lasting Impact of Allegations and What Lies Ahead

Weinstein’s outspoken denial and attacks against Gwyneth Paltrow reflect the wider cultural and legal battle surrounding his legacy and accountability. The confrontation highlights the deep tensions and emotional turmoil connected to the #MeToo movement, which transformed Hollywood and broader society’s approach to sexual misconduct.

For Paltrow, sharing her story was a difficult but necessary step that underscored the larger systemic issues at play. Meanwhile, Weinstein’s prison interview reveals the ongoing struggle he faces, both physically and reputationally. As legal proceedings, appeals, and public discourse continue, the dialogue around consent, power abuse, and justice remains urgent and evolving.
