Steven Yeun Raves About ‘Mickey 17’: A Sci-Fi Journey from ‘Parasite’ Genius Bong Joon-Ho Set to Redefine Imagination!

Actor Steven Yeun is enthusiastically promoting the upcoming sci-fi movie Mickey 17, directed by the acclaimed Bong Joon-Ho, known globally for his Academy Award-winning film, Parasite. Based on a novel of the same name, Mickey 17 tells the fascinating tale of a man who volunteers to become an “expendable” as part of an intergalactic suicide mission aimed at colonizing an icy planet. The film features a star-studded cast, including Robert Pattinson in the lead role, along with Yeun, Mark Ruffalo, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Bronwyn James.

In a recent interview with Collider, Yeun hyped up Mickey 17, sharing his motivation for joining the project. When asked about his decision, he replied, “I mean really, it was Bong.” Yeun emphasizes that working with Bong is “genuinely an incredible experience,” and he teases the remarkable storytelling that viewers will encounter in Mickey 17. He expressed that when audiences see this film, they will recognize that “worlds can be built and imagination knows no bounds.”

Yeun’s excitement is palpable in his words: “I mean really, it was Bong. Every time it’s Bong, you know, I’ve been able to work with him twice now and it’s genuinely an incredible experience. He’s a masterful, genius storyteller, and when you guys see this film, you guys will see that under the right hands like this, I think worlds can be built and imagination knows no bounds.” This statement suggests that Mickey 17 will be a film worth the wait, particularly after its numerous delays.

Initially set for a March 2024 release, Mickey 17 experienced a series of production setbacks that pushed its date back to January 2025, and then to April before it finally settled on a March 7 launch. The excitement surrounding this film has only intensified, with Yeun’s enthusiastic remarks indicating a film that promises thrilling storytelling and fresh ideas.

Having collaborated with Bong on the eco-thriller Okja, released on Netflix in 2017, Yeun’s insight hints at the vast creativity that goes into Mickey 17. The unique and original universe Bong crafted in Okja suggests that audiences can expect even more inventive storytelling this time around. If Mickey 17 indeed illustrates that “imagination knows no bounds,” it could exceed the already high expectations set by Bong’s past works.

The delays in Mickey 17 have fueled anticipation, making it likely that it will stand out among early 2025 releases. Yeun’s excitement serves to heighten interest even further, hinting at the wondrous “worlds” that will be explored in this sci-fi adventure. Scheduled for release at a time typically marked by a lack of cinematic gems, if Mickey 17 lives up to Yeun’s praise, it may emerge as the first truly remarkable film of 2025.
