Sean Michael Leonard Anderson (born March 25, 1988), known professionally as Big Sean, is an American rapper, songwriter and actor from Detroit, Michigan. He first gained major recognition after signing with Kanye West’s GOOD Music imprint in 2007 and later establishing himself as a leading voice in Midwestern hip-hop. Across more than a decade and a half, he has released six studio albums, multiple collaborative projects and several platinum-certified singles. Beyond music, Big Sean is recognized for his philanthropy through the Sean Anderson Foundation and for his ventures in fashion, sneakers and creative direction with the Detroit Pistons.
Early Life and Background
Sean Michael Leonard Anderson was born on March 25, 1988, in Santa Monica, California, to Myra and James Anderson. When he was three months old, his family moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he was raised by his mother, a school teacher, and his grandmother. His grandmother, Mildred Leonard, served in World War II and was one of the first black female captains in the United States Army. Growing up surrounded by this strong family influence in Detroit helped shape his identity and would later inform his music and community work.

He then dated singer Ariana Grande from October 2014 to April 2015. Since 2016, Big Sean has been in a relationship with singer Jhené Aiko, and the couple welcomed a son on November 8, 2022. In November 2017, he purchased an 11,000 square-foot home in Beverly Hills, California.
