Anthony Seigler Bio
Anthony Seigler (born June 20, 1999) is an American professional baseball catcher and infielder for the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball (MLB). A switch-hitter and switch-thrower, he is regarded as one of the more unusual multi-positional prospects to come out of the high school ranks in recent years. He made his Major League Baseball debut in 2025, fulfilling a long path through the minor leagues that began when he was drafted in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
Early Life and Background
Anthony Seigler was born on June 20, 1999, in Cartersville, Georgia, in the United States. He grew up in Cartersville and attended Cartersville High School, where he starred on the baseball team as both a hitter and a pitcher. As a senior, he posted a .421 batting average with 14 home runs, while also serving as a switch pitcher who logged a 1.09 earned run average over 25 and two-thirds innings with 29 strikeouts.
Seigler’s father played college baseball and later taught Spanish at Cartersville High School, where he coached and supported his son’s development. His father bought him both right-handed and left-handed gloves, encouraging him to throw and catch from both sides. Seigler is named after Major League Baseball player Tony Phillips, a friend of his father who lived with the Seigler family for a short time.
Seigler is the second Navajo player to play in the majors, following Jacoby Ellsbury. Coming out of high school, he committed to play college baseball for the Florida Gators before turning professional.
Path to Baseball
Seigler represented the United States on the national under-18 team at the 2017 U-18 Baseball World Cup, where he caught and batted .182 in seven games while the American team went undefeated. Early Career (2018–2019)
Anthony Seigler made his professional debut in 2018 with the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Yankees. After 12 games, he was promoted to the advanced rookie-level Pulaski Yankees, where he played another 12 games. Between the two clubs, he batted .266 with one home run and nine runs batted in.
Seigler spent the 2019 season with the Single-A Charleston RiverDogs, batting .175 with six runs batted in over 30 games. He started the season late due to a quadricep strain and missed nearly the last two months of the year after suffering a knee fracture while catching. Seigler split the 2022 campaign between Hudson Valley and the Single-A Tampa Tarpons, playing in 97 games and batting .236/.405/.369 with seven home runs, 45 runs batted in, and 16 stolen bases. In 2023, he played for the Double-A Somerset Patriots and began playing second base, though he appeared in one game as an outfielder, again throwing left-handed. Seigler returned to Somerset in 2024, playing exclusively at second base. In 118 games, he slashed .234/.350/.398 with 12 home runs, 49 runs batted in, and a team-leading 29 stolen bases. Following the season, he elected free agency on November 4, 2024.
Milwaukee Brewers Era (2024–Present)
On November 19, 2024, Seigler signed a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers. He began the 2025 season with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds, playing both catcher and second base. In 63 Triple-A games, Seigler batted .277/.416/.465 with seven home runs, 35 runs batted in, and 20 stolen bases, his best offensive performance since his 2018 debut. During the season, he began hitting left-handed against left-handed pitchers, forgoing the traditional platoon advantage.
On July 1, 2025, the Brewers selected Seigler to their 40-man roster and promoted him to the major leagues for the first time.
