    Dominique Robinson Bio

Dominique Robinson (born July 2, 1998) is an American professional football defensive end for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Miami RedHawks of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Drafted by Chicago in 2022, Robinson has developed into a pass-rushing contributor for the Bears’ defensive front.

    Early Life and Background

Dominique Robinson was born on July 2, 1998, in Canton, Ohio, and grew up in the same city. He is the son of Anthony Robinson, who played college basketball at Bowling Green. Robinson also has a brother, Jasper Robinson, who played college football at Kent State before a back injury cut his career short.

Robinson began his high school career at Timken High School, where he played basketball and was the starting quarterback on the football team. After his sophomore year, Timken was closed and merged into Canton McKinley High School. Robinson had planned to focus solely on basketball at McKinley, but he was persuaded to continue playing football by McKinley head football coach Dan Reardon.

    Path to American Football

Coming out of Canton McKinley, Robinson was rated a two-star recruit. Miami University was the only Division I FBS program to offer him a scholarship, and he committed to the RedHawks. That opportunity launched a college career that required multiple position changes and several seasons of development before Robinson emerged as a defensive prospect.

    Dominique Robinson Career

    Early Career (2017–2020)

Robinson began his college career at Miami (OH) as a quarterback before being moved to wide receiver during his freshman season in a bid to earn more playing time. As a sophomore, he caught 13 passes for 156 yards and four touchdowns. The following year, he averaged 21.1 yards per catch on 14 receptions for a total of 296 yards during his junior season.

Going into his senior year, Robinson changed positions again, this time to defensive end, after falling down the depth chart at wide receiver. He posted two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss in three games during Miami’s COVID-19-shortened 2020 season. Robinson then chose to use the extra year of eligibility granted to college athletes who played in 2020 and returned to Miami for a fifth season.

    Miami RedHawks Breakthrough (2021)

In 2021, Robinson recorded 28 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks for the RedHawks. His production earned him third-team All-Mid-American Conference honors, establishing him as one of the conference’s top defensive linemen that season.

    Chicago Bears Era (2022–Present)

Robinson was selected by the Chicago Bears with the 174th pick in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He made his NFL debut on September 11, 2022, in the Bears’ Week 1 19–10 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. In that debut, Robinson recorded 1½ sacks, the most by a Bears rookie in a season opener since 1987. Listed at 6 feet 5 inches tall and around 250 pounds, Robinson has continued to develop as a pass-rusher on Chicago’s defensive line.

    Driving Style and Strengths

Robinson’s combination of size, length, and athleticism makes him a natural fit as an edge rusher, where his background as a quarterback and wide receiver has helped him develop football instincts against the pass. His college production in tackles for loss and sacks has translated into an early NFL role as a rotational defensive end for the Bears.

    Notable Events and Milestones

Robinson’s first NFL game stands as his headline milestone, recording 1½ sacks in a Week 1 win over the San Francisco 49ers in 2022, a mark unmatched by a Bears rookie in a season debut since 1987. His third-team All-MAC selection in 2021 marked the peak of his college career.
