Finnegan began his professional career in 2013, splitting time between the Vermont Lake Monsters of the Low-A New York-Penn League and the Single-A Beloit Snappers of the Midwest League. He returned to Beloit in 2014, going 7–9 with a 3.69 ERA and 55 strikeouts, and was named the starting pitcher for the West team in the Midwest League All-Star Game, earning the win with a shutout inning.
