He is also known for hosting a talk radio program on KVOR and for his long involvement in Republican Party organizing in El Paso County and across the 5th District.
After two earlier unsuccessful Republican primary runs in the same district, Crank won the seat in 2024 following the retirement of Representative Doug Lamborn. He took office in 2025 and currently resides in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Early Life and Background
Jeffrey George Crank was born on January 28, 1967, in Pueblo, Colorado, United States. He grew up in Colorado and went on to attend Colorado State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. His college years provided a foundation in political studies that shaped his later interest in policy and public service.
Following his graduation, Crank moved into professional political work in Colorado. His early exposure to Republican politics and policy issues in the state prepared him for a career that combined government service, advocacy, and communications.
Path to US Politics
Crank’s path into national politics began in 1991, when he joined the office of Representative Joel Hefley as a congressional staffer. He served as a legislative assistant and, in April 1995, was promoted to administrative director, a position he held until 1998. Working for Hefley gave Crank direct experience with the operations of a congressional office and the legislative process.
After leaving Hefley’s office, Crank joined the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce in May 1998 as Vice President. He was later promoted to Senior Vice President in October 2001 and continued in that role until February 2006. In parallel, he became active in Republican Party organization, serving as Chairman of the 5th Congressional District Republican Central Committee in 2001 and 2003.
In 2003, Colorado Governor Bill Owens appointed Crank to the Colorado Emergency Planning Commission for a two-year term. The following year, he served on the El Paso County Citizens Corps Council and was the El Paso County co-chair for President George W. Bush’s 2004 re-election campaign. In 2004, he was also elected as a bonus member of the Colorado State Republican Central Committee, deepening his role in state party politics.
Jeff Crank Career
Early Career (1991–2006)
Crank’s early career was defined by his years on Capitol Hill and at the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce. From 1991 to 1998, he worked for Representative Joel Hefley, gaining firsthand knowledge of legislative work in the U.S. House of Representatives. His promotion to administrative director in 1995 reflected his growing responsibilities within the office.
After moving to the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce in 1998, Crank held senior roles for nearly eight years. His work with the chamber connected him to business and civic leaders across the Pikes Peak region and helped build the organizational skills he would later apply in political campaigns and advocacy.
Talk Radio and Advocacy Era (2006–2013)
Crank hosted a talk radio show on KVOR-AM, a program later known as The Jeff Crank Show, where he discussed politics, policy, and current events. The show helped establish his profile among Colorado conservatives and gave him a regular platform to engage with voters in the 5th District and beyond.
In May 2009, Crank was named Colorado State Director for Americans for Prosperity, a role he held until August 2013. In that position, he coordinated advocacy and grassroots activity across the state. He resigned from Americans for Prosperity in 2013 to launch his own political consulting firm, Aegis Strategic, advising clients on communications, strategy, and campaign operations.
Congressional Campaigns (2006, 2008, 2024)
Crank first ran for Congress in 2006, seeking the Republican nomination for Colorado’s 5th Congressional District to replace retiring Representative Joel Hefley. He received endorsements from several prominent figures, including Hefley, but narrowly lost the Republican primary to state Senator Doug Lamborn.
Crank returned to the race in 2008, when he again challenged the now-incumbent Doug Lamborn in the Republican primary. He was once more defeated in the primary. On January 9, 2024, Crank announced a third run for the same seat after Lamborn announced his retirement. In November 2024, he won the general election and became the member-elect for Colorado’s 5th Congressional District, taking office in 2025.
Notable Events and Milestones
Among the defining moments of Crank’s career are his 2006 and 2008 primary challenges to Doug Lamborn, his tenure as Colorado State Director for Americans for Prosperity from 2009 to 2013, and his 2024 victory that returned him to the district he had first sought in 2006. His long-running radio show on KVOR further cemented his presence in Colorado political life.
