He grew up in Bergenfield and attended Saint Joseph Regional High School, where he emerged as one of the top amateur baseball prospects in the region. During his freshman year at Saint Joseph Regional, Malloy batted .329 with five home runs and 31 runs batted in, demonstrating the offensive skill set that would later define his professional career.
Following his strong freshman season, Malloy committed to Vanderbilt University, one of the most competitive college baseball programs in the country. His early exposure to high-level competition at Saint Joseph Regional helped shape his approach at the plate and prepared him for the demands of collegiate and eventually professional baseball.

Malloy began his college baseball career with the Vanderbilt Commodores, where he spent two seasons playing primarily in a reserve role. The Atlanta Braves selected Malloy in the sixth round of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft, and he signed with the organization for a bonus of $297,500. He was initially assigned to the Low-A Augusta GreenJackets before beginning the 2022 season with the High-A Rome Braves. With Rome, Malloy slashed .304/.409/.479 with 10 home runs, 16 doubles, and 44 runs batted in across 71 games, earning a midseason promotion.
After joining the Double-A Mississippi Braves in July 2022, Malloy appeared in 54 games and hit .268 with 11 doubles, six home runs, and 31 runs batted in while posting a .403 on-base percentage and an .824 on-base plus slugging percentage.
