    Young’s Motorsports Overview

Young’s Motorsports is an American professional stock car racing team that was established in 2012 and is based in Mooresville, North Carolina. The team competes in several NASCAR-sanctioned series, including the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and the ARCA Menards Series, fielding Chevrolet race vehicles across its various entries. Owned by Randy Young and Tyler Young, the organization has grown from a small part-time Truck Series operation into a multi-series program that fields entries numbered 02, 12, 20, 42, and 46.

Across its racing programs, Young’s Motorsports has competed in 386 documented races, recorded 2 pole positions, and earned 2 race victories. While the team has not yet captured a series championship, its continued expansion into higher-profile series such as the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series has marked it as a steady presence in American stock car racing.

    Founding and Organizational Origins

Young’s Motorsports was created in 2012 when Randy Young and Tyler Young organized a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series effort around the No. 02 truck. The team made its competitive debut at the 2012 North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Rockingham Speedway, with Tyler Young behind the wheel on a part-time schedule. From the outset, the organization set out to build a Chevrolet-based program that could grow steadily through experience and targeted entries.

In its earliest years, the team’s operational structure centered on a small shop operation and a single full-time entry supported by short bursts of additional competition. The Young family invested in building relationships within the NASCAR Truck Series paddock and laying the groundwork for the future expansion of the program. Those early operational foundations established the team’s identity as a hands-on, family-owned racing organization based in Mooresville.

    Growth Into NASCAR Competition

Young’s Motorsports took its first major step into expanded NASCAR competition in 2014, when the team ran its first full-time Truck Series season with Tyler Young in the No. 02. The following seasons brought a series of partnerships that broadened the team’s presence, including a 2016 collaboration with Austin Hill Racing to field entries for Austin Hill and later a partnership with Rette Jones Racing to field a truck for Dominique Van Wieringen at Phoenix International Raceway.

In 2017, the team announced that the No. 02 truck would be split between Austin Hill and Tyler Young, a move that helped establish Austin Hill as a rising talent. By 2018, Austin Hill drove the No. 02 full-time and delivered six top-ten finishes. The organization also expanded its truck lineup with the No. 20 entry, which was originally Austin Hill Racing’s former number. These early years of growth allowed Young’s Motorsports to refine its Chevrolet-based program and prepare for further series expansion.

    Young’s Motorsports Competitive Journey

Young’s Motorsports has progressed from a single part-time Truck Series effort in 2012 to a multi-series program that fields entries in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and the ARCA Menards Series. Along the way, the team has introduced more than 30 different drivers across its various entries, developed young talent such as Austin Hill, and recorded milestone victories that established its presence on the national stock car stage.

    Early Seasons and Development (2012–2015)

The team began with a part-time Truck Series schedule in 2012 and 2013, with Tyler Young competing in the No. 02. In 2014, Young’s Motorsports ran its first full-time season with Tyler Young, and that same year briefly fielded a No. 42 entry at Kansas as a start-and-park team to help fund the primary No. 02 program. The No. 42 made six starts before being shut down for the time being.

These early seasons allowed the team to build a foundation of operations at its Mooresville shop, refine its Chevrolet Truck setups, and gain the experience needed to expand. By maintaining a steady presence and improving race-to-race, Young’s Motorsports positioned itself to attract partner teams and additional drivers in the seasons that followed.

Breakthrough in the Truck Series (2016–2020)

Between 2016 and 2020, Young’s Motorsports expanded its Truck Series footprint and recorded several defining moments. In 2017, the team added the No. 20 as a second entry, opening the door for a deeper driver lineup. Austin Hill moved to the No. 02 full-time in 2018 and scored a top-five at Texas along with six top-ten finishes.

In 2019, Spencer Boyd captured the team’s first victory in the Sugarlands Shine 250 at Talladega after an on-track ruling elevated him to the win. Boyd returned for additional seasons with the No. 20, while drivers such as Gus Dean ran the No. 12 and Tyler Dippel ran the No. 02 in 2019 and 2020. The period closed with Tate Fogleman competing for Rookie of the Year in the No. 02 in 2020 and finishing seventeenth in the standings.

Modern Program and Current Direction (2021–Present)

In 2021, Young’s Motorsports announced its expansion into the ARCA Menards Series with the No. 02 car, with Toni Breidinger among the first drivers. The team also recorded its second victory when Tate Fogleman won at Talladega in the No. 12 truck, edging Tyler Hill by 0.052 seconds. The organization continued to grow its Truck Series lineup with drivers such as Kris Wright, Jesse Little, Kaz Grala, and later Mason Massey and Nathan Byrd.

On January 3, 2024, Young’s Motorsports announced its move into the NASCAR Xfinity Series with the No. 42 car and Leland Honeyman as the full-time driver. On January 14, 2025, Anthony Alfredo was announced as the full-time driver of the No. 42. On November 10, 2025, the team announced a second O’Reilly Auto Parts Series entry, with Ryan Ellis set to drive the No. 02. In the Truck Series, Nathan Byrd is scheduled to drive the No. 02 for 15 of 25 races in 2025, while Stefan Parsons, Jordan Anderson, Mason Massey, and Will Rodgers share the No. 20. Thad Moffitt is also scheduled to drive the No. 46 in selected events after the team acquired that entry from Faction46.

    Philosophy and Competitive Strengths

Young’s Motorsports has built its identity around a Chevrolet-based program and a willingness to give opportunities to a wide range of drivers. The team frequently rotates drivers across its entries, which allows it to evaluate talent and develop future prospects while remaining competitive in the Truck Series and ARCA Menards Series.

    Key Milestones and Major Moments

The team’s first major victory came at Talladega Superspeedway in 2019 with Spencer Boyd in the No. 20 truck, and its second victory came at Talladega in 2021 with Tate Fogleman in the No. 12 truck. Additional milestones include the 2024 announcement of its first NASCAR Xfinity Series entry and the 2025 expansion that added a second O’Reilly Auto Parts Series car.
